"Good Measure" (Single)

Released Sep. 13, 2019

In the shadows of a fading summer, Beauts release “Good Measure” – a simmering new single that comes to grips with an increasing disconnect between individuals, friends, and communities.

Pulsating, glinting synths are punctuated by tempered guitar lines as the song opens the gates – cautiously, yet assuredly – towards a surging, crescendoing drive. While the band’s penchant for recalling the sonic influences of groups such as The National and Interpol remains ever present, “Good Measure” positions Beauts further in the past bringing to light their fervour for the tones, pacing, and delivery of acts like New OrderThe Cure, and Talk Talk. Interwoven with lyrics poised to distract from the dread of ultimately being alone, an undercurrent of shoegaze provides a steady bedrock for the slow-burning track.

“We’ve sort of been increasingly mellowing out as a band, and this song is evidence of that. Instead of trying to hit people over the head with an intense anthem, we’ve been paying more attention to nuance, especially with the dynamics of a song,” says Beauts vocalist Jeff Lawton of the song’s creation. “But we also wanted it to still move fairly briskly, and we’ve been paying more attention to synths and hooks, and how they can be used more subtly.”

This is the second single from the debut Beauts full-length, set to be released in 2020 on LHM Records. It is the follow-up to “The City Loves Me,” released in May.
