"Paragon" (Single)

Released Jun. 3, 2022

“Paragon” is the first single from Halifax indie rock band Beauts since the 2020 release of their Music Nova Scotia and East Coast Music Award winning debut album, Dalliance

Says singer Jeff Lawton, about “Paragon”:

“Paragon” is the first thing we worked on following our last record Dalliance, and I see it as a continuation of the more melodic, textured stuff we’ve been leaning into.

Musically, there’s a lot of ground covered within the track, as the song ends in a much different place than where it begins and there’s not much repetition. It feels like we’re settling into the idea that the band can sound like a lot of different things, as opposed to a strict style or genre, and that’s been really exciting for us.

I’ve also been trying to move away from writing about self-deprecation and self-criticism, and instead trying to look outward and write about the people around me. I’m very clearly writing about my partner here, chronicling our relationship and expressing my awe for her.

Being forced to stay indoors for the past couple years has given me time to appreciate how fortunate it is to have someone in your life you love, admire, and are happy to be around all the time. And it’s just nice to sing something nice for a change.

After three heralded EPs, Beauts released their debut full-length, Dalliance, on February 21, 2020 on LHM Records. Championed by CBC Music as one of the “25 Canadian albums to look forward to in 2020,” the record acted as both a marked demonstration of the post-punk-tinged band’s steady growth for those who have been following along, and a bold introductory statement for those just coming to the table.

Scrappy, melodic, and urgent, Beauts make music for the shadows of a fading summer. Primed with gusto, this Halifax-based band channels the anthemic drive of groups such as The National and Interpol while maintaining the melodic interplay of acts like The Cure and New Order.
