"Get High" (Single)

Released Mar. 19, 2021

As we prepare and pine for the onset of spring, Hillsburn unveils “Get High” – a punchy new indie pop single primed to be the soundtrack for sunny days, long drives, and the promise of better days ahead.

Surging out of the gate with a boisterous group-vocal chorus, “Get High” coalesces the Halifax band’s musical strengths into a tight 2:50 package. Indelible melodies, nostalgic callbacks, and masterful arrangements all come to fruition on the new single and offer nods to the dynamic framework of their upcoming full-length, Slipping Away.

This careful study of a pop-forward form on “Get High” (and all throughout the new record) is due in no small part to the band’s work with Grammy nominated producer Howard Redekopp. From the chorus kick-off, to the driving bass, to expert interlacing of each of the song’s movements, shades of Redekopp’s work with acts such as Tegan and Sarah, The New Pornographers, and Mother Mother are omnipresent throughout.

More than just a ‘party song,’ the track is also a reflection on how to best use the limited time we have to live.

“It’s about lamenting the inability to tell someone how you feel about them when you’re young and unsure of yourself, and how it feels to watch as that person goes on to half-heartedly pursue the usual life and status milestones that are laid out for us,” says guitarist Clayton Burrill.

Heralded by CBC Music as one of 21 Canadian Albums We Can’t Wait To Hear in 2021Slipping Away is available on May 28 via LHM Records.
