Keeper E.’s newest EP, thank u and please and don’t go, earned her multiple awards nominations at the provincial and regional levels in Atlantic Canada. Songs from that project have been spun in regular rotation on CBC Radio 3, earned her official Spotify playlist adds, and saw her touring in support of the release across Canada, including opening spots for Bahamas and Catherine MacLellan, and festival plays at Halifax Jazz Fest, NXNE, and the East Coast Music Awards.

Keeper E. is proving herself one of the most exciting new pop acts from Atlantic Canada. She has showcased nationally and internationally at events like The Great Escape, Future Echoes, New Colossus, NXNE, POP Montreal, and many more. She regularly tours through Eastern and Atlantic Canada, and has her sights set on developing new international markets in 2023 and 2024.

Says Keeper E., aka Adelle Elwood, about her newest single “Nothing Going On”:

A lot of my life is spent waiting for stuff, and sometimes that’s just what you have to do. I love having different haircuts, but if I cut it short, I’ve got to wait years for it to be long again. I love traveling, but if I go on one trip, I’ll have to wait for months before I have enough money to plan another one. Sometimes my thoughts get stuck on a certain conversation I need to have with someone, but again, I need to wait and keep thinking and thinking about it until the other person is ready to talk. Sometimes life can be really really boring, and feel so monotonous, and it’s hard to focus on anything else but whatever I’m looking forward to. 

It’s always easy to get myself into some sort of trouble in these boring periods of my life. I start really overthinking things, and turning small problems into big problems because there’s literally nothing else going on, so these little things are the only things I can think about. It’s easy for people to just give the offhand advice to “live in the moment” but in these times, my mind is always wandering to the future or fixating on things from the past. 

Even with all the waiting and boredom of life, this song is still a kind of celebration of ennui. Sometimes it’s nice to have nothing going on. It’s nice to have a monotonous routine that you can rely on. Sometimes the wait for things makes them even better when they happen. When nothing’s going on, we have time to think about things more deeply, and time to relax and do nothing at all. 

Combining her silvery voice with playful synths and driving rhythms, Keeper invites us into the world inside her mind, sharing pages of her journal combined with intriguing melodies. Her songs have a romanticized hopefulness, looking back on past loves, regrets, and fearfulness with gratitude and hope.

“Nothing Going On” is slated for release on May 19, 2023 and is available via LHM Records.
