"Breakfast Again" (Single)

Released Sep. 4, 2020

“All of us are better when we’re adored.”

The very last line sung across the eight songs and 25 minutes of Featherweights, the new album from Owen Meany’s Batting Stance, is a typically literate paraphrase from songwriter Daniel Walker, who pulled the “beautiful, universal sentiment” from Alistair MacLeod’s No Great Mischief.

Teaming with delicate lo-fi guitar strings and Owen Meany’s Batting Stance’s (“OMBS”) harmonious vocals, new offering “Breakfast Again” explores the fallout of a lost love. Discussing the inspiration behind the track, OMBS front person Daniel Walker tells us: “‘Breakfast Again’ is about the worries and resolution that come with no longer sharing a life with someone important to you.”

Accompanying the track is a hazy visual featuring Daniel Walker. The minimalist music video blends cloudy and clear shots of the lonesome artist dwelling in his thoughts over a cup of coffee. Water droplets fall in reverse as the milk unblends itself from Daniel’s black coffee. Later, we find Daniel laying in the river: the reason for his being soaked clarifying itself as the lyrics and melodies hint at the possibility of hope and closure at song’s end.

Recorded above a fishmonger’s shop in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Owen Meany’s Batting Stance’s sophomore album Featherweights consists of eight singularly voiced short stories that explore everyday themes with deep insight, and thoughtful perspectives. The new album is due out on LHM Records on October 2, 2020.
