"Lazy Afternoon" (Single)

Released June 2, 2023

Rum Ragged is Newfoundland’s hardest working band. The folk and traditional four piece has been actively touring and releasing music since the release of their self-titled debut in 2016. They have four full-length albums under their belts, and a fifth on the way titled Gone Jiggin’ set for release in October 2023 with their new label team at LHM Records.

“Lazy Afternoon” is a laid back folk tune written by Stan Ellison and originally released on an album called God Bless The Unemployed by Lea Nicholson and Stan Ellison in 1972. Mark Manning of Rum Ragged unearthed the song during the recording sessions for the band’s new album. The group was so moved by the track that they decided to put their own spin on it, and record it for their own release.

The earnest simplicity of the song’s lyrics set to its beguiling melody are the canvas atop which Rum Ragged paint with their Irish influenced folk and traditional brush.

The single comes ahead of a series of summer tours which sees the band traveling to the United States, British Columbia, and throughout the Maritimes for festival and headlining performances all along the way.
