"Venom" (Single)

Released Oct. 19, 2018

A slow, creeping poison, painful and even deadly; this is exactly how it feels, the awful introspective, silent moment when unfulfilled longing paralyzes the body. Powerlessness collides with anger, giving strength to one last rebellion, until indifference and emptiness spread, and the poison numbs all.

“Venom” is the name of Veronica Fusaro’s new single, a confident and gripping soundtrack to a story of poison and spite. The song’s instrumentation provides a dark background for the haunting and powerful presence of this singer and songwriter from Switzerland. Jazzy-smooth synth-sounds pulsate throughout the song like warm blood. Fleeting female voices appear like a ghost choir, contrasting with Veronica Fusaro’s passionate multi-layered singing and surprising musical ornaments create tension and dynamism. The strength of the music lies in its pared-back nature, giving centre-stage to Fusaro’s strong exciting voice, which is exactly what makes it so special. And all this with a rhythmic precision which reveals this strong Swiss newcomer’s fascination with hip hop and dub beats. She has the courage to borrow gently from the sound that has made artists such as The Weeknd and Drake into superstars, but without betraying her own roots.

Freshness and rawness give “Venom” its strength, delivering a captivating sound, drawing the listener into its spell, bewitching and entrancing. Seductive? Yes! But watch out: sometimes seduction can be poison, a terrible and risky thing of beauty.
