"When Summer Comes" (Single)

Released Aug. 28, 2020

waants is the new solo project from Halifax producer and songwriter Adam Warren. Drawing inspiration from Rostam’s shift from indie band songwriter/producer to solo artist and electropop’s current vanguard, waants is both Warren’s most sonically-expansive and most pop effort yet.

“When Summer Comes” is the second single from waants, and was written in the spring of 2019 after his mother died suddenly that April. The lyrics look toward a time when Adam hoped he might find some relief from the grief and heartbreak; the summer serving as a place and time in the future where some warmth and light might find its way back in through the cracks left in him in the wake of his mother’s passing.

The track is hopeful and warm. It evokes the happiness and peace of everyday life in commonplace activities like trips to the beach and family BBQs that we sometimes take for granted. The sound of steel drums carry the listener to an imagined beach in the future when summer comes back again, and the lo-fi piano and 808s ground the sound of the track in contemporary pop and hip-hop elements.
